Adaptation’s 121st release is a deep, smooth and funky soulful house track from Tom Conrad entitled ‘Soul Protocol’.

The aptly named ‘Soul Protocol’ is Tom’s second soulful release of 2022 which is an ode to the late 70s and early 80s soul sound with smooth chords and keys, sublime rhodes piano, funky bass line and two distinct vocal messages within the track. This release follows on from the popular ‘Love Satisfaction’ which was a top #20 track on U.S download site Traxsource.

This is Tom’s 7th release so far in 2022 following on from releases on HIVE Label, Ginkgo Music, TOSNC and Adaptation Music with many more on the way under his various aliases which include both Thylacinus and Caliorange, with his first ever vinyl album due for summer release.

The 18th release on Cosmic Elements sees the return of New York producer and talented musician Dissident with ‘Consequences EP’.

With parallels to early OM Records and Naked Music’s Carte Blanche series, this superb two tracker begins with the lush female vocal track ‘Late Night Anguish’ which features Dissident’s niece Cordelia Tapping on vocals. Dreamy and ethereal summer vibes all round! on the flip so to speak is the brilliant ‘Disemotioned’ which features Dissident himself on vocals and also has sunshine written all over it. Completing the EP is the dreamy, thought provoking and downright beautiful track ‘Release’, one for a summer’s afternoon without a doubt.

Dissident follows on from his ‘Phrases Of Life’ album, previously on Cosmic Elements, with his music also featuring on the iconic Distant Horizons compilation and on parent label Adaptation Music. With a wealth of experience playing for the likes of Quincy Jones and Miles Davis, this a producer who certainly emphasises quality and consistency.

Following on from 2020’s ‘Acquiescence’ and a brief hiatus, Caliorange are back with their first EP on Adaptation Music, a superb deep house three tracker entitled ‘Illuminated EP’, with the track titles most likely familiar with the deep thinkers and truth seekers out there.

The opening track is the deep, driving, captivating and atmospheric ‘Worlds In Collision’, with classic Detroit style chords and pads, deep sub bass line and spoken word vocals which discuss the book mentioned in the title, a book which challenged mainstream science when published, was ridiculed and then many parts of it were proved to be correct many years later, with more likely to come to fruition in the future.

The next track ‘Vedic Principles’ takes ‘atmospheric’ to the next level and is a dreamy, space themed affair with sweeping pads, ethereal stabs and chords alongside sounds from both nature and outer space with the addition of various spoken word vocals. The theme with this track relates to the principles of flight and more coming from vedic sources but claimed by western factions millennia later.

Completing the EP is ‘Orwellian Notes’, the title of which will appear apt to some concerning current world events. The track is another Detroit influenced number with garage beats, sweeping soulful chords, a Roy Ayers-esque lead and old school vibes in the breaks.

Adaptation Music’s 120th release sees a debut on the label for disco aficionados Truth Committee with the superb disco / French house crossover track ‘The Way It Was’.

The infectious groove, soulful keys and killer bassline alongside the spoken word vocal combine to recreate the classic filtered disco house and French house crossover sound of the late 90s which will be familiar to fans of early Daft Punk and Crydamoure releases, whilst also catering for those into both Nu Disco and Jackin House.

This release sees the first of several already scheduled for Truth Committee in 2022, on Adaptation Music as well as on the likes of Ginkgo Music and Hive Label.

Thylacinus returns to Cosmic Elements with his second solo EP which is a smooth jazz and funk inspired three tracker including two west coast hip hop gems, entitled ‘Perceptions EP’.

The opening track ‘Open Your Mind And Realise’ is a warm, soul inspired, thought provoking groove with funk laden beats and leads you into a place that you don’t want to leave; it certainly gets across the message of the EP title. Next up is the hard hitting ‘They Respect Nothing’ which takes you right back to mid 80s L.A with its funk layered infectious late night vibes. Closing the EP is ‘Avenue View’, all puns intended, with a driving bass line and and guitar lick leading up to some smooth soul interludes and completing another fine EP from Thylacinus.

Thylacinus is the alias of Tom Conrad who is currently better known within the realms of house music, however with his early influences of funk, jazz, soul and 80s hip hop it was inevitable he’d take this path at some point. Look out for more singles and an album from Thylacinus over the next few months along with music alongside his friend and top artist Da Funksta (The Old Skool the New Class).
